The Bodleian Libraries has played a vital role in preserving the world’s knowledge since its founding in 1602.

Our purpose is to share knowledge by making it as accessible as possible while preserving it for generations to come. The collections we protect are shared across the globe to ensure everyone can learn from the stories that shaped our history and that will shape our collective futures.

The Bodleian takes a radically long-term approach to its work: we consider a thousand-year-old book to be still early in its life since it has the potential to attract physical and digital readers for millennia to come. The actions we take today are incredibly significant in preserving our collections for future generations.

could fund the digitisation of a rare book, enabling it to be accessed across the globe.

could enable the development and delivery of an hour-long collections-based teaching session for Oxford students.

could provide four specialist ‘book shoes’ to protect books on the shelves of historic library settings including Duke Humfrey’s Library.

per month could enable the archives team to arrange and catalogue one box of loose papers in preparation for research.
