Giving to the FOP Research Fund

Fibrodysplasia ossificans progressiva (FOP) is an extremely rare genetic disorder that causes muscles, tendons, ligaments and other connective tissues to turn to bone. It affects only around 600 people in the world and causes an extra skeleton to form, imprisoning the body and making it virtually impossible to move.

Led by Professor James Triffitt and Dr Alex Bullock and their team, Oxford is one of the few institutions conducting research into FOP. In 2006, we played a vital role in the discovery of the gene that causes the disease. This was a huge step forward in understanding how FOP occurs. But it’s only half the battle. We are now searching to not only slow the symptoms of FOP, but also to find a cure.

Your donation will help Professor Triffitt and Alex Bullock and their team of researchers to further our understanding of this rare but distressing condition.

Donors in the US can give tax-effectively via Americans For Oxford (AFO).
