The Oxford University Museum of Natural History opened in 1860 as 'a cathedral to science' and is today a museum of outstanding national and international importance. Safeguarding over six million scientific specimens, it houses an extraordinary earth and life sciences collection and archive which are of considerable scientific and historical significance. Among its most famous collections are the world's most complete remains of the extinct Dodo and the earliest scientifically documented dinosaur remains.

The Museum’s mission is to be a globally leading university science museum and international centre of excellence within the sciences of the natural environment, using its collections for display, research, teaching and public engagement of the highest quality.
