Vice-Chancellor's Circle Sixth Annual Meeting

The Vice-Chancellor’s Circle met for its sixth annual meeting on Thursday 22 May 2014, with a lively debate on the theme: Big data or bad data: should personal data be freely used without permission?

Speaking in favour of the motion were Professor Sir Richard Peto (Professor of Medical Statistics and Epidemiology) and Professor Stephen Roberts (Professor of Machine Learning). Speaking against the motion were Professor Peter Tufano (Peter Moores Dean and Professor of Finance) and Professor Luciano Floridi (Professor of Philosophy and Ethics of Information). The debate was chaired by The Rt Hon Dame Elish Angiolini DBE QC, Principal of St Hugh’s.
