Vice-Chancellor’s Circle 2013: celebrating five years

23 May 2013

On 23 May 2013, over 150 benefactors and special guests came together in Oxford to celebrate the fifth anniversary of the Vice-Chancellor’s Circle, which recognises the significant support its members have made to the collegiate University. A special debate was held in the Sheldonian Theatre, with the theme 'A waste of Space: should the £ be spent on Planet Earth?'.

Speaking in favour of the motion were Dr Sabina Alkire, Director of the Oxford Poverty and Human Development Initiative, and Professor Sarah Whatmore, Head of the School of Geography. Speaking against the motion were Dr Hanna Sykulska-Lawrence, Royal Society Research Fellow in Astrophysics, and Dr Chris Lintott, Researcher & Citizen Science Project Lead in Astrophysics. Mr Will Hutton, political economist and Principal of Hertford College, acted as moderator for the proceedings.
