Redeveloping the Sir Roger Bannister Running Track

2024 marks 70 years since Sir Roger Bannister completed the first sub-four-minute mile at the Iffley Road running track.

With this limit broken, Sir Roger made a historic achievement that symbolised human progress and transformed our understanding of what is possible in athletics and beyond.

Training is fundamental to success in athletics and the Oxford University Athletics Club's primary training ground remains the Sir Roger Bannister Track at Iffley Road, which has been in existence since 1876.

Your gift today will support the University in redeveloping key track and field elements at Iffley Road while also making these facilities and surroundings accessible for para-athletes.

Our success is marked by a blend of outstanding individuals and excellence, across various disciplines on the field and track, showcasing our depth and talent. 

With professional coaches overseeing every event, we accommodate athletes of all levels, from novices to international medallists. Our commitment to inclusivity is evident through purchasing racing wheelchairs and hosting outreach events for state school students, fostering a diverse and supportive environment. 

However, while OUAC operates at an extremely competitive level, our facilities lag behind, highlighting an opportunity to unlock OUAC’s full potential in the future.
