Researching motor neuron disease
Affecting up to 5,000 adults in the UK at any one time, motor neuron disease is a progressive neurodegenerative condition affecting the brain and spinal cord. It dramatically shortens the lives of the majority of those who develop it, and there is currently no cure. Here, Professor Kevin Talbot, Head of Clinical Neurology at Oxford, explains how donors are helping to drive forward new research into this devastating disease.
The Oxford Motor Neuron Disease Centre is led by Kevin Talbot and Martin Turner, Professor of Clinical Neurology and Neuroscience. Research at the centre has received support from the Motor Neuron Disease Association, All About Alie, and several other generous individuals and charitable trusts.
