Mickey Lewis Memorial Fund

In early March, Mickey Lewis, the Blues Coach since the early 2000s, tragically passed away after a short battle with cancer. Mickey was the heartbeat of OUAFC, coaching Blues sides for 20 years with the same relentlessly passionate and uncompromisingly egalitarian approach. To honour Mickey’s legacy, the Mickey Lewis Memorial Fund will ensure high-quality coaching and training facilities for future OUAFC players, across all squads.

About OUAFC

Founded in 1872, OUAFC is one of the University’s oldest and most prestigious clubs, with the Varsity match against Cambridge University one of the longest standing football fixtures in the world. Oxford University Women’s Association Football Club, OUWAFC, was founded in the 1980s and merged with OUAFC in 1998. The first Women’s Varsity Match was played in 1986.

OUAFC University players train 3 times a week with regular weekly matches and the average cost per player is around £150 annually, with Men’s and Women’s Blues expenses increasing with additional match expenses. Support from former players and fans can make a real difference in making top-flight university football accessible for all.

Here are some ways your donation can make a difference:

  • £10 will pay for two training balls
  • £25 will cover the cost of a referee
  • £100 will pay for an hour of training full-pitch on floodlit astroturf
  • £700 will cover the cost of one team’s travel expenses for the year
  • £2000 will cover the cost of one team’s coaching expenses for the year
