Lawn Tennis Club

Lawn Tennis Club OULTC provides high quality coaching, matches and social activities for an ever-growing number of members. Over 20 training sessions take place every week throughout the year for our various teams. 10 Varsity Tennis Matches (5 men’s, 5 ladies’) are now played, and there is a growing social squad. OULTC currently has over 600 active members making it the largest sports club in the University.

With the support of our alumni, we have been gradually improving our facilities at Iffley Road, in partnership with OU Sport, including: new pro clay courts, new court fencing, new boundary fencing and revitalised grass courts. One-off or regular donations help to defray some of the costs the club incurs, such as:

  • £50 Court hire for an indoor training session
  • £120 Indoor court hire for a 2nds/3rds BUCS match
  • £500 Indoor court hire for BUCS matches for a 2nds/3rds team for a whole term
  • £1000 Indoor coached training session for two teams for a term
  • £2000 Taxis to White Horse Leisure centre for an OULTC team for a whole year
  • £3500 Indoor court hire and transport costs for BUCS matches for an OULTC team for a whole year

Please get in touch at lawntennis.club@sport.ox.ac.uk if you would like to hear more or get involved, and receive our quarterly alumni newsletters.

OULTC Clubhouse redevelopment project

To accommodate for the increasing interest in the sport, we are now seeking to redevelop the old Tennis clubhouse at our Iffley courts, which has stood since the mid-1980s. While structurally sound, the building’s interior is out of date, lacks proper heating and does not offer a happy environment for match hosting.

With your help, the new clubhouse will offer a welcoming environment for hosting the club’s members and will enable the Tennis community to continue going from strength to strength at Oxford. Find out more information on the scope of the project and how you can support it

OULTC Prentice and Seabright Cups

Individual donations are invaluable as the main source of income supporting the costs of the Prentice Cup and Seabright Cup tennis matches and team tours in the UK and the USA, held every two years. The Prentice and Seabright Cups are respectively the mens’ and ladies tennis matches held between joint teams from Oxford and Cambridge Universities, and Harvard and Yale Universities.

In 2024 the matches will be played at the All England Lawn Tennis Club, Wimbledon – donations will provide support for the costs of holding the match itself, as well as tour costs of hosting our guests from Harvard and Yale.

Donors in the US can give tax-effectively via Americans For Oxford (AFO).
